Reasons to Shred

Legal Compliance

Effective March 2014 under the Privacy Act 1988 the Australian Information Commissioner issued the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) applying to organisations and the Australian Government. These new principles replaced the National Privacy Principles (NPPs) and Information Privacy Principles (IPPs). There are in total thirteen APPs of which four APPs can be associated with securely managing and destroying personal information. In particular, APP11 clearly outlines an organisations responsibility to securely destroy personal information as shown in the extract below. Serious penalties can apply to businesses that do not comply with these principles.

APP 11 – security of personal information

Requires an organisation to take reasonable steps to protect the personal information it holds from interference, in addition to misuse and loss, and unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.

In addition an organisation must take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify personal information if the organisation no longer needs it for any authorised purpose.

Data Security

Shredding office documentation gives you peace of mind knowing that the sensitive client and staff information that you manage as a business will not end up in the wrong hands and be used fraudulently. A data breach from within your business could result in legal ramifications and be very damaging and costly to your business.

Recycling

Outsource shredding guarantees that the processed shredded paper will ultimately be recycled. This ensures that you are doing your part to minimise the impact on the environment lessening your carbon footprint. Recycling is now considered a business obligation with only irresponsible business operators continuing to dispose of recyclable waste to land fill. Every business should do whatever it takes to reduce resource consumption.

Convenience

It is efficient for businesses to have a document destruction program in place to manage their secure shredding requirements. A seamless schedule to remove and shred office documentation from your office can be easily arranged with CTI Shredding & Recycling. The strategic placement of destruction containers throughout the workplace allows staff to conveniently dispose of office documents in good faith and comfortably know that these documents will be destroyed securely.

Cost Effectiveness

There is no doubt that outsourcing paper shredding is by far more cost effective than purchasing an office shredding machine and using your own staff to shred office documents. A destruction program can be arranged for a minimum service from as little as $30 per month. Depending on your specific requirements and volume of office paper waste, scheduled service can be organised daily, weekly, monthly, bimonthly or on a call for basis.
